Vistana Hotel is located on Jalan Telok Sisek which is one of the busiest roads in downtown Kuantan. The hotel is situated right next to Hotel Seri Malaysia and is just minutes away from Berjaya Megamall Kuantan.
From Kuala Lumpur, Kuantan is a breezy two-and-half hour away on the scenic East Coast Expressway (ECE). Alternatively, there are 2-3 daily flights from KLIA to Kuantan Airport (KUA) on Malaysia Airlines (MH). Unfortunately, AirAsia (AK) does not fly to Kuantan. From the airport, taxi journey to the city centre takes about 15-20 minutes.
Interestingly, Vistana Hotel is managed by the much-revered YTL Hotels & Properties which is the hospitality arm of the highly-respected YTL Group. With the exception of the three hotels under Vistana name brand, each in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Kuantan respectively, YTL Hotels & Properties hosts a selection of prestigious hospitality establishments such as The Ritz Carlton and JW Marriott Hotel, both located in Bukit Bintang, the fabled Pangkor Laut Resort in Pulau Pangkor, Cameron Highlands Resort in Tanah Rata and Tanjong Jara Resort in Terengganu. With such an interesting line-up, I reckon that its Kuantan property is more of a business-class hotel catered for the growing economy of Kuantan, which is the largest city in the East Coast of Peninsula Malaysia.
The hotel building seems to be nicely maintained in bright white painting. The building does exudes a good impression for a 4-star hotel which forms a landmark on the busy road of Jalan Telok Sisek. There are 215 guest rooms in total at Hotel Vistana, spanning across its eight-storey building, inclusive of an underground parking area. The breakdown of room categories are: 172 Superior rooms, 42 New Generation rooms and 4 Suites.
I checked myself into a Superior room. Much to my surprise, the Superior room was acceptably nice although as expected, there was nothing extraordinary for a city hotel like this. Perhaps the hotel management knows exactly that over-embellishment of a queen-size bed with colourful floral motif no longer works in this era. The comfortable queen-size bed is comfortably covered with white cotton sheet and comes with a well-matched line-striped spread. The overall room design is also arranged in an uncluttered space utilisation where room amenities such as working desk, IDD phone, electronic safe box, coffee and tea making facility and mini fridge are well-arranged to create a great room ambience overall.
As for general amenities, the hotel seems to offer just bare necessities such as an only F&B outlet called the Coffee House which overlooks the swimming pool and serves all-day-dining options for breakfast, lunch and dinner, a big ballroom that can accommodate 500 guests and can be further be partitioned into smaller conference rooms, and a medium-size swimming pool located on the same floor as the main lobby. The swimming pool is also equipped with an adjoining wading pool and there are quite a number of sunning beds neatly arranged around the pool deck.
A nicely-maintained city hotel, suitable for both business and leisure travelers. Good room design.
