LOCATION:

At Teluk Bahang, some 30 minutes from downtown Georgetown.

DESCRIPTION:
Mutiara Beach Resort was listed in the prestigious Luxury Hotels of The World until recently. The Datai in Langkawi is the other resort listed in the group as the few representatives from Malaysia.

Nonetheless, I feel that this hotel is fairly old, I think it was built some 15-20 years ago. The lobby looks quite lethargic, but overall, the interior and the room are decent.

I stayed at a Deluxe Sea View room, which was more like a side sea view. Fabulous view nonetheless. Walking out from the lobby brings you through a small tropical garden with koi ponds before the large swimming pool beckons you.

There is also the Teluk Bahang beach which seems nice for a good spell at the sea. I also had a BBQ dinner at one of the restaurants, which was fabulous - sushi, raw oyster, cocktail shrimps, lobsters, fresh squids, etc, were generously all in abundance. Coincidentally the resort was running a cultural night show for the tourists, which was an eye opening experience.

*Note: Mutiara Beach Resort will be closed for renovation from 27 March 2006 until further notice

MY VERDICT:
A decent place to rest and relax, and still not far away from the city centre if you are looking for shopping malls and night clubs.
